The Different Types of Dental Braces

Posted on 9/19/2022 by Dr. Frank K. Sioda
The Different Types of Dental BracesDental braces are expert oral devices that align and help to straighten teeth. These oral devices will position your teeth properly for a bite. The braces will also improve dental health.

Braces also known as 'orthodontic brackets, are bonded to the teeth with a particular type of glue and are often made from stainless steel, ceramic, or plastic. Braces apply a gentle form of pressure on the teeth to move them into alignment over time. There are many different types of braces, which are generally classified according to their material composition and method of attachment.

Metal Braces

The most popular type of braces is metal braces. They are made of high-grade steel and attached to the front of your teeth. Metal braces are less expensive than other forms. Some advantages of wearing metal braces include that they are less visible than other types of braces, are solid and durable, and can be removed easily if necessary. They work best with small to medium-sized teeth.

Ceramic Braces

The braces are made of clear elements and are less seen on your teeth than on metal ones. These unique braces are used chiefly on upper front teeth. They require attention to oral hygiene because they can cause teeth staining. One tip for caring for your ceramic braces is using a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid scratching the brackets. You should be extra careful with flossing to prevent gum irritation. You should avoid eating hard and sticky foods to prevent breaking the brackets.

Invisalign

One of the things about Invisalign is that they're practically invisible. If you're looking to get braces but don't want anyone to know, Invisalign might be the right choice. These are made of explicit plastic material and are custom-made to fit your teeth. Because they're not seen as metal braces, Invisalign is popular for adults.

Our dental clinic offers a variety of braces to choose from, depending on your needs. Our dentists will be able to help you decide which type of braces are right for you.
