Our patients, as well as many other members of the population, are increasingly turning to homeopathic remedies to cure what ails them. Part of the reason is the high cost of prescription drugs. For many ailments, homeopathic remedies work well. Even in dentistry, there are essential oils that can be used to help reduce gum inflammation or toothaches until you can get to us. Obviously, there is an underlying problem that is causing pain and inflammation. Without fixing that you will continue to have the symptoms and whatever condition is causing them will simply get worse. When it comes to teeth whitening there are two recommended ways to when your teeth. You can come to the office and we can whiten them here or give you a custom tray to take home, which saves on office visits. The other accepted way is to purchase an over-the-counter whitening agent, but ensure that it has the American Dental Association seal of approval on it. Then there are homeopathic or DIY methods. What Methods Should I Avoid?Oil pulling, which involves taking coconut oil and swishing it around in your mouth is also supposed to whiten your teeth. Though this doesn't hurt your teeth, it doesn't whiten them either. Brushing your teeth with sea salt is another DIY way to whiten your teeth. Though it is abrasive and will get your teeth clean, it will also damage the enamel on your teeth making them more susceptible to staining rather than less susceptible to stains. Adding the spice turmeric to an oil pulling session also does nothing to whiten your teeth. Activated-charcoal is another scrub people like to use on their teeth and it is yet another ineffective method of entering them. Some people think that mixing acidic fruits like lemon or oranges, with baking soda, will whiten their teeth. Sadly, they are mistaken mixing the acidic food with the alkaline substance does not minimize the damage of the acid on your teeth. Contact us if you want to whiten your teeth and we will find the best way for you that is within your budget. |
