Posted on 5/30/2019 by Dr. Frank K. Sioda
Why Do I Have White Spots on My Teeth? You may be just sitting in front of the mirror one day, minding your own business, when you realize that your teeth aren't uniformly white and sparkling. In fact, you may notice that you have spots on your teeth that are whiter than the other parts of your teeth. Horror of horrors! You can't go around with spotty teeth! What's a person to do?

Luckily for you, not only do we have reasons why your teeth are spotty, but we also have ways you can erase the white spots off your teeth for good. Sounds good, right? Keep reading for more information about white spots on your teeth.

Causes of White Spots

There are several causes of white spots on your teeth. One cause is that you may have had too much fluoride as a child. This means that there are going to be white spots on your teeth or your child's teeth until they lost their baby teeth. Adult teeth will not have spots caused by fluoride. Another cause of white teeth, enamel hypoplasia, also only occurs with baby teeth, but it can cause tooth decay.

The main causes of white spots on adult teeth is poor dental hygiene. This is especially true if you like to eat a lot of acidic or sugary foods. The acids and sugars eat away at your dental enamel, which can cause white spots. If you wore braces, and you didn't clean your teeth properly, you may also have issues with white spots.

Treatment for White Spots

Luckily for you, you don't have to live with white spots. There are several treatments we can try to fix the problem. We could try microabrasion to get rid of the white spots. This means we will remove a tiny portion of your tooth enamel where the white spot was, to reduce their appearance.

Teeth bleaching may also help your teeth all look the same color. If you have stubborn white spots, you may want to think about dental veneers, which make your teeth look uniformly white and bright. Resins applied to teeth may also be effective, and not as expensive as veneers. If you have questions about your spotty teeth, why not give us a call today?
