If You Have Dry Mouth During Sleep, Your Smile Could Pay the PriceDry mouth is never a good thing. It doesn't feel good and it certainly doesn't do your mouth any good. Due to this, there are many health reasons why hydrating the mouth is important. Without saliva, the bacteria can stick to the teeth and cause tooth decay to happen.

It is much more likely to happen when a person sleeps, especially if they sleep with their mouth open. This bacteria in the mouth can lead to tooth decay and infections. It can even lead to tooth loss in more serious cases.

Ways to Stop Dry Mouth While Sleeping

There are ways that can help you prevent dry mouth from happening while you sleep. It is important to keep your mouth as healthy as possible. Chew sugar-free gum right before you go to bed to help with the production of saliva in the mouth. Try to limit the amount of caffeine that you drink daily, since caffeine tends to dry the mouth out more. Mouthwash with alcohol should be refrained from, while tobacco use can also have the same effect.

Have water by your bedside and sip regularly if you're lying in bed. If you wake up thirsty, wet your mouth so you don't have to worry about the bacteria sitting on your teeth. It is important that you try to keep your mouth moist. Finding a way to keep the mouth closed while sleeping is also ideal, since this dries the mouth out quicker.
