When you first received your veneers, you loved them, and you have been really happy with how they have made your teeth look. What happens if you notice that one or more veneers you have are broken? You can make it with a broken veneer, right? Actually, no. If one of your veneers breaks, you need to get it fixed. If you don't, you may in fact worsen the overall health of your mouth. What Are Veneers?Veneers are thin layers of material (usually porcelain) that fit over your natural teeth. Veneers are used when your teeth are damaged or discolored due to disease or accidents. Veneers have been used for years to give people the beautiful teeth they have always wanted. Replacing Broken VeneersIf you notice that one or more of your veneers are broken, chipped or cracked, you will need to get them replaced. Because the veneers are placed on your teeth using an adhesive, if they break, your teeth are then vulnerable to tooth decay, because bacteria can get in through the crack or hole in your veneer and your teeth. 185 If you don't replace your broken veneers, it could lead to more damage to your teeth in the long run. You can try and keep your veneers in as good a shape as possible by avoiding using your teeth as a tool to open things such as bottles. Also, keep away from tobacco products, because they will stain your teeth. If you are a fan of boxing or other contact sports, and you have veneers, wear a guard to keep them from breaking or cracking.
