 CEREC means ceramic reconstruction technology. It has been developed over the past 29 years by a German company called Sirona.A CEREC 3D scanning machine sits chairside in the operatory room, capturing the patient’s tooth and gum information via a scanning device and sending it wirelessly to a CEREC milling machine in our facility across the room. The milling machine fabricates crowns with different materials. Most scanning and milling takes less than 20 minutes, so on average you can expect one to four crowns before your numbness wears off. Most people start the CEREC process with a digital scan of their mouth for a single visit restoration via CAD/CAM technology, which we offer in our state-of-the-art facility. We can decide if we want to do a Biocopy scan and replicate the current shape of the patient’s teeth, if the patient likes the shape of the teeth but just wants to have a stronger and whiter tooth. The patient may also choose to do a Bioreference of the contralateral side; if they don’t have a tooth left to take a copy we can just copy the tooth on the opposite side and duplicate that, or we can choose Biogeneric Individual which allows the CEREC computer to design a tooth with a catalog of common tooth shapes that will be the closest match to perfection. We match color personally in our in-house lab. You can expect beautiful teeth within two hours vs. the traditional two weeks– no temporary acrylic crown and no more shots then necessary from the beginning of the appointment for proper anesthesia. You and your teeth have one treatment day and will be much happier. Most people feel very comfortable with the process; they walk away as if nothing has happened. Other Ways Patients Are Benefiting from CERECA new procedure now being used is to fabricate custom implant abutments and the crowns whether it be screw-retained or cementable. If you need a root canal, we can fabricate the crown. While we are waiting for the crown, the root canal can concurrently be worked on and finished at the same time, reducing your time in the office in half by having only one visit to solve two problems. If you have an anchor tooth in need of repair and it is attached to a partial denture, we can copy that tooth and retain the same retention and fit as the original tooth, or we can customize the fit and make the partial fit better, instead of replacing the tooth and also fabricating a new partial denture.
