Oral care products

Posted on 9/25/2023 by Dr. Frank K. Sioda
Oral care productsOral care products are items that facilitate good dental hygiene. Each oral care product serves a specific purpose. It can either be to protect, clean, or freshen up the oral cavity.

Toothbrush/toothpaste

Look for a toothbrush with soft bristles to avoid damaging the gums or eroding the enamel. For effective cleaning, doctors recommend brushing in a gentle circular motion. Besides the normal toothbrushes, there are interdental brushes. Interdental brushes are ideal for people who have dental work such as braces.

You will want to use a fluoride toothpaste because fluoride strengthens the enamel. Toothpaste whether fluoridated or not, has abrasive ingredients for cleaning the teeth and removing plaque from the gum and teeth.

Flossers

Dental flossers clean in between the teeth. Flossing complements brushing in many respects. Through flossing, you can remove plaque between the teeth and under the gum line. You can opt for either waxed or unwaxed dental floss. If you are using orthodontic dental devices such as bridges and braces, worry not! There are specialized dental flossers precisely for people with dental work.

Mouthwash

A mouthwash comes in liquid form. It is used to freshen the mouth, clear plaque, and kill bacteria that is in the mouth. The most common types of mouthwash are antiseptic or fluoride-based.

Tongue scrapers

The tongue is always forgotten when it comes to maintaining oral hygiene. The tongue holds a lot of dead cells, bacteria, and plaque that is not visible to the naked eye. Whereas you could brush your tongue with a normal toothbrush, using a tongue scraper will do a better job. A buildup of plaque on the tongue is the leading cause of bad breath. Cleaning the tongue is a sure way of improving the health of your oral cavity.

It is best to use products that require specialized guidelines with the instructions of the dentist. A good example of such a product is teeth whitening products. The wrong use of teeth whitening products could damage your enamel. We have a holistic and integrative approach to dental care. Be sure to check us out today.
