A dental inlay, which is a prefabricated filling, can restore a tooth that is severely decayed or damaged. It is a solitary, reliable restoration made to properly fit a cavity's contours. The pits and fissures on the chewing surface of a tooth are filled with an inlay.
Types of Inlays
Dental inlays are typically made with porcelain or composite resin to match the natural color of the teeth. Furthermore, a gold inlay can be created. Gold inlays are the most durable filler, although being pricey. On molars and premolars, inlays are used when a tooth cannot sustain a traditional filling. Their use is typically indicated when a tooth has undergone extensive restoration or is compromised. One of our dentists might also suggest obtaining a dental inlay if older fillings have fractured.
How Are Inlays Placed?
Often, it takes two consultations to complete a dental inlay. During the initial session, our dentist will prepare the tooth by using a drill to remove any decay. After the damage has been fixed, our dentist uses putty to make a mold or imprint on the tooth. To create the inlay, the inlay is given to our dentists for the exam. After the initial appointment, our dentist puts a partial inlay over the teeth in order to protect them until the follow-up appointment.
Our dentist then cleans the tooth and takes out the temporary inlay. Our dentist will then use dental cement to attach the permanent inlay after fitting it to the tooth. The inlay is then polished and flattened by the dentist. Our dentist will often need to schedule two appointments to place an inlay unless they have a milling machine. With this technology, our dentist might be able to complete the process without the need for a temporary fix. Visit our clinics today to get your inlays fixed.
